A beautifully patterned Lowfin scorpionfish (Scorpaenodes parvipinnis). This is the first photo I've gotten of this species, and I observed some behavior I haven't seen described in print...there were a pair of these, and when I first approached, both of them were showing the trademark white band around the midsection (still faintly visible in the photo above). As I got closer, one of the pair disappeared into the reef, while the other darkened until the white patch was almost gone, as seen here.
